Scott has served on the Genesee Township Board for ten years, eight as Supervisor. Prior to seeking that elected office he was President and CEO of Elite Diversified, Inc. for ten years. Scott says his job with Genesee Township is very rewarding and requires his attention 24/7. The Township has a DPW, police department, two fire stations and over 24,000 residents. Scott has been active in MATS leadership since the organization's beginning, serving as Treasurer, Vice President and now as President. Scott is a member of and/or serves on the boards of a number of local organizations. He is a member of the East Flint Lions; on the board of FANG (Flint Area Narcotics Group); and served on the board of the Flint/Genesee Growth board 2004-06. He has been vice president of GAIN Auto Theft Prevention Unit since 2005, on the board of Genesee County 911 since 1999 and chairman of Genesee County Water and Advisory Board since 1999. He is a past president of the Kearsley Community Schools Board of Education and has served on the board of Kearsley Daly Villa - Senior Housing since 1998. Despite this committed civic life, Scott maintains that his first priority is always to his wife and family.

Dwayne Parker has served Buena Vista Charter Township as its part-time Supervisor since 2000. He works closely with the township's manager to deal with the challenges of a growing community. Before being elected vice president of MATS, Dwayne served several years as District 4 Director on the MATS Board. Dwayne currently serves on the Board of Directors of Saginaw County's Economic Development Agency (Saginaw Future Inc.), was appointed by the Saginaw City Council to serve on the Board of Directors of Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) and most recently was appointed to the Saginaw County Land Bank Authority. Dwayne is a 1998 graduate of Michigan State University's Political Leadership Program.

Linda is in her 15th year as Supervisor of China Township. She has the distinction of being the first woman supervisor in the township's 172-year history. She has served MATS since its beginning as Director of District 5. Linda is a past vice chair and chair of the MTA Saint Clair County Chapter, and currently serves as secretary. She is chair of the Saint Clair Fire Authority, represents the Township Board of the Recreation Committee, is chair of the Township Advisory Committee of the Saint Clair County Road Commission and served on the MDOT Transportation Study Committee.

Terry Wright has served as Supervisor of Grayling Township for over 11 years. In addition to that challenging role, Terry is also the assessor, zoning administrator, ordinance enforcement officer and office manager, and serves on the boards of several area organizations. In 1999 Terry received the American Hometown Leadership Award from NATAT, and he was named a fellow to the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University.

Jim Beelen is serving his 11th year as full-time Supervisor for Allendale Township. Prior to being elected Supervisor, he served 18 years as Township Treasurer. In addition to being a part of the MATS Board since its beginning, Jim serves on the Michigan Township Participants Plan Board of Directors, the Grand Valley Metro Council Board of Directors and on several other local and county boards and committees.

Robert DePalma has served as Groveland Township Supervisor for over 10 years. Prior to this position he was chairman of the Planning Commission and BZA for 16 years. Bob is a Past President, Vice President and Secretary to MATS, and has served in several positions in the Oakland County Chapter of the MTA. Under his terms his township has installed the only known privately funded community natural gas program to over 700 homes. Groveland has also recently completed a program to reduce ISO (insurance for homeowners) premiums from a fire protection class 9 to a class 4, giving Groveland the best rural rated fire department in Michigan.

We urge you to contact these people to share your ideas and concern about issues affecting your community and townships as a whole.
2 New Districts Proposed – Directors Needed in Northern Michigan
In March 2008, the membership will vote on a proposal to divide Districts 1 and 2 each in half. If that proposal passes, MATS will then need to elect new Directors for the Eastern Upper Peninsula and the Northwestern Mitten. Directors are expected to attend four board meetings a year, which are usually held the day before each MATS conference.

John Olson

John was elected to the Township board at the tender age of 26, and has served as Supervisor of Michigamme Township for 37 years. He has served on the MATS board since it began, representing the Upper Peninsula. He is president of the Marquette County Township Association, chair of MarqTran (County transportation system) and Treasurer of the West Marquette County Landfill Authority. John was a member of the committee that wrote the new Michigan law and associated rules regulating sulfide mining, among the most stringent such regulations in the nation. John is also a member of the Michigamme Museum.
John's prime concern is to best use tax dollars to serve his constituents. In his tenure, voted millages have passed to support the fire department/first responders; garbage collection and disposal; recreational facilities; road repair; and general operating services. In 2004 voters approved the two mills for 20 years to renovate the Community Building and Township Office.

Marie is the full-time Supervisor of Alpena Township. She is in her 19th year as an elected township official, having served four years as a Trustee before being elected Supervisor. She is a founder of the Intergovernmental Council, a coalition of municipalities in the Alpena Area.

William Wiersma has been Supervisor of Tallmadge Township for 10 years. In his previous career he taught history and government. Bill has served on the MATS Board for one year and represents Tallmadge Township on the board of the Grand Valley Metro Council.

Ray was the Blackman Township Clerk for four years before being elected Supervisor in 2004. He is active in so many Jackson County agencies, one has to wonder if he has any free time! Ray is chairman of both the Local Development Finance Authority and of the Downtown Development Authority; and serves on the boards of the Enterprise Group, United Way of Jackson County, the Land Bank Authority of Jackson County, the Jackson County GIS Policy Committee, Jackson Community Planning and on the Metro Fire Services Study Committee.

Hired at the beginning of 2007, Judi Lintott is the first Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Township Supervisors. Judi comes to MATS with a wealth of experience in local government, event planning and association management, having served on the staff of the Michigan Municipal League for over 22 years. Her primary role during her first year with MATS includes conference planning, membership recruitment, coalition building and public relations.
