Education & Events
Why should you attend a MATS Education Conference?

We asked our members,
“What’s the most valuable part of attending a MATS conference?”
Here’s what they told us – unedited!

Encouraging Stronger Leadership in Rural Michigan since 1998.
Invite
MATS to
attend
your
local
meeting

Help us recruit other Supervisors to join MATS! The more members we have, the more valuable the networking experience is for all members. If you have a county supervisors meeting or MTA chapter meeting, the MATS executive director or a board member would like to come tell your group about MATS membership and upcoming education events.

We can also facilitate roundtable discus-sions on a variety of topics, or help you find another presenter on a specific municipal topic.

If possible, please give us a couple of weeks notice before your meeting.

Also, if you're looking for a presenter on a municipal topic for a larger group of your township staff and/or volunteer boards, consider working with MATS to arrange an onsite training program. Call MATS at 734-572-8776 for a suggestion.

These meetings are more relaxed because we are all supervisors.

One-on-one discussions with other supervisors and learning from speakers who know our issues.

We’re able to attend all classes; don’t have to choose one over the other.

Meeting with other supervisors and discussing issues in a “safe” environment.

Onsite &
Regional
Training

  • Affordable
  • In your designated location
  • Available only for your
    local audience
  • Topics and content specific to your township's needs

MATS can suggest a topic or presenter for your local education needs. Many of our partner companies will present sessions in your township hall on the topic your staff or boards need. Contact MATS for a list of available topics or to ask us to locate a presenter for the topic you'd like to have presented. Contact MATS for details.
Present an educational session for MATS

Are you interested in presenting an education session to Township Supervisors? Please submit a short proposal. All proposals received are compiled in a database that is used to plan MATS conference agendas, arrange

on-site training
in individual com-munities, and also
to refer presenters
to other groups
around the state. Submitting a
proposal is not
a guarantee that your session will be selected. Presenting a session at a MATS conference is an unparalleled opportunity to demonstrate that your firm is a leading expert in the designated field and on the presentation topic. Our audiences are particularly inquisitive – perhaps the most involved group you’ll ever encounter! You are welcome to use examples from your own client files, and to provide handouts about your company’s areas of expertise. As you develop your materials, please remember that presentations at MATS conferences are NEVER an opportunity
for direct sale of your firm’s products or services. Questions? Contact Judi Lintott.
MATS conferences get us thinking in different directions. They present controversial issues in a new way, not just what we want to hear, but what we need to hear.

Networking. Great opportunity to listen to other supervisors and their concerns and problems –  and solutions!

Education (at a MATS Conference) is specific to supervisors.

Michigan Association of Township Supervisors has partnered with Saginaw Valley State University to make higher level education more affordable for MATS members. As a MATS member who attended the MATS Spring Education Conference in Chelsea, when you enroll in the Michigan Certified Public Manager Program (CPM®) to begin in August 2010, you will receive 50% off the regular registration fee, a savings of approximately $2000!
Several MATS member supervisors, including president Dwayne Parker, will be part of the August 2010 class. Sign up today and be part of our study and support group.

All other MATS members will receive a 10% discount (A savings of about $400) off enrollment in the August 2010 and future sessions.

To receive the MATS discount, MATS members must register for the MCPM program using this link, or must otherwise identify themselves as MATS members at the time of registration.

CPM® is a nationally accredited management development program for public managers in Michigan, offering middle to upper-level training to local and county government officials and staff, state agency personnel, and non-profit personnel. Participants are trained in subject areas that enhance their productivity and effectiveness as public managers. The program consists of 22 courses; 18 online and 4 onsite, normally held at the SVSU campus.

Saginaw Valley State University has exclusive rights to administer this program within Michigan. The CPM® certification is nationally recognized, and is expected to quickly become highly sought after by employers in the field of public management.

Michigan Association of Township Supervisors is the first association to partner with SVSU to offer this discount to its members!
